Recovery One Connection at a Time with Dave and Carter
“From being at the Clubhouse for almost eight years I am achieving two of my greatest dreams: being a Peer Counselor and an Artist. I’ve been clean from drug addiction for over thirty-five years and am dedicating my life to work with drug addicts who want to quit using and lead good lives. Also recently some of my pictures I’ve created are on display and for sale. I have two careers I can do and I’ll always work at Aspire House because they took time for me and I want to return the favor. It’s a great place to work too,” said Dave, an Aspire House member.
Stories like this are why September’s National Recovery Month matters. Recovery isn’t a straight line, and it isn’t meant to be walked alone. It’s built through connection, purpose, and people who show up for each other, day after day.
Carter, an Aspire House member said, “Being in recovery means taking it day by day, sometimes even minute by minute and having a lot of gratitude. Recovery means being able to wake up in the morning and instead of feeling sick and tired, feeling well and getting to start the day in a positive way. Believing in a higher power beyond ourselves and communing with a fellowship of AA or NA are all important parts of recovery.”
To everyone on their own recovery journey: we see you, we believe in you, and our community is here.
Recovery is possible. Recovery is happening. Recovery is community. 💛
